Symposium – Animal Testing
By a symposium visitor:
”On the 28th of November we have had the pleasure of attending the second symposium of the academic year, this time the topic was animal testing. There were 4 speakers of very different backgrounds and therefore they gave quite divergent talks. We started with a PhD student who talked about her own research and how she doesn’t need to use test animals, as opposed to an example of one of her colleagues. Next we had a speaker to inform us about the procedures of getting a license to use animals for experiments. After a dinner break we continued the evening of enjoying informative talks. The third speaker was a professor who told about his own experience with arthritis and how he used mice as a means to research elevation of this sickness, therefore showing that animal testing perhaps is very necessary. Our last speaker of the day was a teacher at our own university, he talked about the possibility of used ‘simpler’ animals for testing, instead of vertebrates. ”
