Masterclass – Career Orientation

During the second masterclass of 2017/2018 SHA students had the opportunity to learn more about their career options after completing a master’s programme. The first day, Monday April 23rd, was focussing on PhD’s and thus mainly about pursuing a career in science. Ralph Meulenbroek welcomed the students with a cellist solo and continued telling about his versatile career as researcher, teacher and musician. After a short break two PhD students, one from the physics department and one from the biology department, told something about their own experiences and choices leading up to their current career decision.
The masterclass committee then requested the students to create a LinkedIn profile at home before the following meeting and the students were also given the opportunity to take a professional photo which they could use for their brand new LinkedIn profile. The second day, Wednesday April 25th, focussed more on pursuing a career in business. Lisette Spoelder from People in Science explained in more detail how you can obtain a job in business with a science diploma and also gave students handy tips for their CV’s. The masterclass was then concluded with a short LinkedIn workshop given by Talent&Pro helping the students with their online visibility.
