National Trip to WRR
For the first SHA National Trip of this year, the National Trip Committee is inviting you to join us on our excursion on Thursday 19 December 2019 to The Scientific Council for Government Policy, the WRR (Wetenschappelijk Raad voor het Regeringsbeleid)!
The WRR is an independent advisory organization for the Dutch government. Its insights provide policy-makers with a scientific basis for decision making, focussing on long-term perspectives.
During the excursion there will be lectures about the following studies:
— Preparation for Digital Disruption —
Even if we are not aware of it, digital infrastructure is tightly interwoven with processes that are of great importance to society, the economy and the democratic constitutional state. There are professional organizations and regulations that deal with disruptions in the physical world but the digital aspect sadly does not get as much attention.
In this report, the WRR advocates for the improvement of the preparation for digital disruption by giving the right organizations an adequate level of permissions to protect against escalation. It also advocates efforts on the subject of cyber insurances.
— International AI Policy, Stupid Data, Smart Computers, and Wise People —
In this working paper international AI-policy will be researched by looking at publicized strategies and methods of fifteen countries and two international organizations (EU and UN). The completed research also analyses the most important patterns in the studied cases.
This working paper is a background study that will later appear in a WRR report about the influence of artificial intelligence on public values.
The excursion will be at the institution of WRR itself (location: Buitenhof 34, 2513 AH Den Haag). The excursion will be from 09:45 until 12:00 (travel time to the WRR not included). 3 Educational points are up for grabs as well!
So if you’re interested in learning about how the WRR operates and how it provides scientific advice, then join us on this trip. Please sign up via the link provided in the sent mail or on our Facebook page. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on science.sha.partners@uu.nl. We hope to see you all on December 19!
